15th July 2026: Skomer Island, Pembrokeshire

A hot summer's day on Skomer Island, where the adult puffins are bringing sand eels back to their burrows, where the young pufflings are.

The landscape around the cliff edge is covered with corn chamomile and bracken, among which lie the burrows. As the puffins come in to land, the black-backed gulls are waiting to try and steal the catch, so the puffins dart quickly into their nest sites.
