This week the world remembered the events of 9/11, with memorial services held across the United States. The twenty-fifth anniversary of that tragic morning has spawned much soul-searching and reflection on the long-tail impact of the American response. Not often renowned for its sensitive approach to important subjects, Netflix's documentary Turning Point: Generation 9/11 is a refreshingly frank examination of how that day in 2001 leads all the way to ICE's full-frontal attack on 'the land of the free's' own citizens today. Remarkably moving interviews with those born just before or after the attack, notably those later posted to Afghanistan with the US military, will remind older viewers how we ended up at this point, while filling in the gaps for a younger generation that only knows that it took place - not why.
Back here in the United Kingdom, news broke yesterday that Reform UK has received a record-breaking £72m from crypto billionaires, leading to calls for a review of the way political parties are funded. Resisting the creep towards a political strongman era will require a strength among ordinary citizens that is often built upon a culture of health, happiness, and belonging. While the world becomes a more dangerous place, it is ever more vital that we ensure our own lives are fulfilling and connected. Looking after ourselves, our families, and our friends or neighbours steels us for the adversity ahead. So head out to that exhibition, make the dinner reservation with friends you've not seen in far too long, and restore your sense of self with personal projects in your downtime. These are acts of resistance just as much as a protest, petition, or casting a ballot.

The joylessness of certain sections of the electorate has reached new heights.
